The lunar new year or “Tet”  is widely celebrated with closures of many shops and restaurants. Golden Week (a week around the 1st of May is a long Public Holiday for China, South Korea, Japan and Vietnam with a high influx of tourists and increase in prices.

Vietnamese Dong (VND) is the local currency. Cash is still the most commonly used form of payment, although most hotels and many larger restaurants and shops in the bigger cities will accept credit cards. ATMs are available but usually have low withdrawal limits. Some prices are quoted in US Dollars in tourist areas.
